Poor Marie Antoinette. One of the worlds most tragic and memorable lemon-heads. The doyenne of all luxuries extravagant and au' currant. She enraged and "soured", pun intended, the French public by her outrageous spending on her signature hair poufs, exquisite wardrobe, sugary macaroons and gambling just to list a few. She chose to wear pink and silks while her royal subjects were rolling up their gauzy sleeves in preparation for a revolution. The tricolor cockades (ribbons of red, white and blue) where worn proudly by every citizen whether poor or titled.
By the time the great crowds stormed the gates shouting Vive' la France and off with her head it was too late. This peacock could not change her colors. While it is highly doubtful that she ever uttered the words "Let them eat cake", she might as well have said it. The price she paid for this possible slander was a dear one and we all know what that was. She lost her lemon on October 16, 1793.
Bonnie, I LOVE THIS PICTURE!!! It made me laugh out loud in such a good way! Her hair is the best with her pretty pink ribbon and I love little Louis. Only you! I admire this on so many levels and I mean that.
